Arepas Cafe is a family-owned restaurant proudly serving the Astoria, Queens community for nearly two decades.
Our story began when founder Riccardo Romero arrived in New York City from Venezuela in the 1990s, bringing with him the traditions and flavors of his homeland. After years working in New York’s restaurant industry and building relationships across the city’s culinary scene, Riccardo set out to share Venezuelan cuisine with New Yorkers.
In 2007, he opened Arepas Cafe in Astoria, one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the world. What started as a small neighborhood restaurant quickly became a gathering place for locals, Venezuelans living abroad, and anyone curious to discover authentic Venezuelan flavors.
Today, Arepas Cafe remains a family-run restaurant built on hospitality, tradition, and community. Recently honored with the “Best Soup of Queens 2026” award by the Queens Chamber of Commerce, we continue our mission of sharing the flavors of Venezuela while welcoming every guest like family.
